6 mm needles 8 ply yarn
I've done it in stripes to add colour and also so I can count my rows :)
When I change colours I just drop the yarn that I am not using and pick it up again the next time it is needed, as the gown is done up at the back you can not see the colour changes unless you look closely and only 4 tails to weave in. To close the gown I crochet 4 ties, two at the top and two in the middle of the gown. Special thanks to Lisa B for testing the pattern and also her gorgeous photo.
Starting with brown
Cast on 22 stitches
Row 1 * knit 1, knit f/b, repeat from * = 33 stitches
Row 2 Knit all stitches
Row 3 * knit 2, knit f/b, repeat from * = 44 stitches
Row 4 Knit all stitches
Row 5 * knit 3, knit f/b, repeat from * = 55 stitches
Row 6 Knit all stitches
Row 7 Knit all stitches
Row 8 Knit 9, cast off 12, knit 13, cast off 12, knit 9 ( 31 stitches)
Row 9 Knit all stitches
Change to blue yarn
Row 10 knit all stitches
Row 11 knit all stitches
Row 12 * knit 3, knit bar, repeat from *, knit last stitch (41 stitches)
Row 13 * knit 3, knit f/b, repeat from *, knit last stitch (51 stitches)
Change to brown yarn
Row 14 knit all stitches
Row 15 knit all stitches
Row 16 * knit 3 blue, knit 3 brown, repeat from *
Row 17 * purl 3 blue, purl 3 brown, repeat from *
Row 18 * knit 3 brown, knit 3 blue, repeat from *
Row 19 * purl 3 brown, purl 3 blue, repeat from *
Row 20 * knit 3 blue, knit 3 brown, repeat from *
